Tunyai Clinic Project

The most important condition that unites religions: parents need to be loved and parents need to be taken care of. Treat the same as you would treat your children: with care and understanding. To honor father and mother means to be respectful in words and actions, as well as to pay tribute to their position.

Tunyai Clinic Project

In 2019, the Nazareth Sisters of the Annunciation opened a new dispensary (medical clinic) in the semi-arid rural community of Tunyai, Kenya. The St. Anthony Dispensary has been busy from day one — the sisters currently see 15 to 25 patients daily (250 to 350 patients monthly). At present, the clinic has a tin roof, half-walls, and dirt floors, as shown. In 2022, we began efforts to raise the funds needed to build a better facility to care for these patients.

Building a Better Clinic to Serve the People of Tunyai

The Nazareth Sisters of the Annunciation-USA Board has worked closely with the sisters in Kenya to design and equip a clinic that meets the needs of the local community. A final budget of $150,000 was set to construct a new permanent clinic building, furnish and equip it, purchase a van for clinic transportation needs, and provide access to clean water at the clinic site.

When the $65,000 needed to begin construction was raised by the end of 2023, work on the new clinic commenced in January 2024. Construction is expected to be completed by fall 2024. The attached picture shows the progress of the clinic as of June 1, 2024.

The Board is now focused on raising the remaining $85,000 to properly furnish and equip the clinic and to address transportation and water needs. A van is required to transport medical supplies and, when necessary, transfer critically ill patients to the nearest appropriate hospital, located 12–15 miles away. Additionally, water access must be established by drilling a borehole and installing a pump.
